Individually designed using as many natural and local materials as possible, each of Las Olas’s seven suites feature a different theme, incorporating spectacular views over Copacabana’s glimmering shoreline. Inside you will find a living area, a small kitchenette with sink and hotplates, a comfortable double and single bed, a private bathroom with 24 hour hot water, an inside hammock and a small fireplace. There is also a little electric heater for your use if the weather is chilly. Beautifully decorated with artistic detailing, these suites are truly the perfect hideaway.
Outside your doorstep are spacious gardens with hammocks and deck chairs on the different terraces leading down the hill side. During the day llamas roam the property, gnawing the grass and popping up to say hello every now and again. Also on the grounds is a fire place and several stone tables where you can enjoy dinner while watching the sunset over Lake Titicaca.
The owners of Las Olas pride themselves in being ecologically minded, using big solar panels to preheat water and recycled washing machine water to help keep their extensive gardens nice and lush. Staff also collect any glass or plastic bottles left behind to recycle.
The staff at Las Olas are very welcoming, providing you with little maps of the village and detailed tourist information upon your arrival. Guests can purchase tickets to Isla del Sol from reception as well as to La Paz and Puno. You are free to borrow books, musical instruments and board games throughout your stay. The hotel also offers a daily laundry service.
The only draw-card to staying at Las Olas is that the internet connection is very weak. Often emails can take up to 6 hours to arrive, posing a problem if your bus is running late (staff require guests to check in before 2pm or they give the room away). If you need to check in at a later hour or advise Las Olas of your delayed arrival, call rather than email.
It should be noted that Las Olas is a 10 minute uphill walk from the main road and is tucked away down a little side alley. If arriving at night you might find it a little tricky to locate, so make sure to print off directions in advance.
